Here, you can find self-paced professional development modules that are designed to introduce the most essential components recommended for successful implementation and improved writing instruction.

Modules Overview

Participation in the WEGO-RIITE project includes completing online professional (PD) development activities. Although the project does not involve college credit activities, your participation in the training and full implementation of the project can be used to earn points towards your licensure renewal.

When: After completing the self-paced PD modules as well as after full implementation, the facilitators of WEGO-RIITE will provide you with a certificate that lists the number of hours to be used towards licensure renewal and a brief description of the activity.

What: It is anticipated that the completion of online modules will take you approximately 5 hours. The full implementation of the WEGO-RIITE project will includes WEGO-RIITE instruction planning (which will earn you ~5 hours), participation in PLCs (which will earn you ~5 hours), and engaging in data-driven decision making about your writing instruction (which will earn ~5 hours).

How: If you are working with a school division, you should share the certificate with your advisor and get advisor approval on these renewal activities. If you are not working with a school division, you can send the certificate materials directly to your district/state DOE for PD credit.

Module 1

Welcome to WEGO-RIITE’s online professional development. In this module, you will be introduced to the purpose and background of the Writing Efficiently with Graphic Organizers – Responsive Instruction while Implementing Technology Effectively (WEGO-RIITE) project.

Module 2

Welcome to Module 2 - Exploring and Maneuvering the TBGO. This module addresses what the student will see and do when interacting with the TBGO. The goal of this module is to identify the student related functions and capabilities of the TBGO+ and its built-in features.

In this module you will:

Use all five parts of the TBGO
Identify and locate various built-in supports
Identify elements of persuasive writing in the IDEAS strategy

Module 3

In this module we will be discussing two features of the TBGO. First, we will review the self-regulated learning strategies embedded in the TBGO. Then, we will also be exploring various video models that are provided in the graphic organizer and designed to help students throughout the writing process. In addition, we will discuss the video guides for teachers. These guides are intended to offer teachers additional activities to support the use of video models.

In this module you will:

Understand what self-regulated learning strategies are and how they are incorporated in the TBGO
Be familiar with the learning objectives of each video model
Understand how you might use a video guide to further remediate students in particular area(s) of the writing process

Module 4

In this module we will be discussing the features of the Teacher Dashboard in the TBGO+ and how they can be used to monitor, score, and provide feedback on student writing. First, we will share how to add students to your teacher account. Next, we will show how to assign essays or prompts to specific students or your entire class, including how to create your own prompts. Third, we will share how to lock and unlock student essays. Then, we will explore what we can learn from the “data usage” feature within the teacher dashboard. Last, we will show how to use the built-in teacher rubric.

In this module you will:

Add students to your teacher dashboard
Assign essays/prompts to students
Lock and unlock student essays
Navigate the data usage feature
Access and utilize the teacher rubric

Module 5

In this module we will be taking a deeper dive into the components of the teacher dashboard presented in Module 4. First, we will look at how a teacher applies the embedded rubric to carefully identify a student’s specific writing skill deficit. Then, we will look at the data driven decision maps that provide instructional strategies that align with the skill deficit. Finally, there are three examples to observe in the module that show how teachers use the described cycle of data-driven decision making to facilitate student progress when writing with the TBGO+.

In this module you will:

Apply the rubric to a students’ work in the TBGO+
Identify a student’s specific writing skill deficit
Select instructional strategies that align with the deficit by using the Data Decision maps
Construct a Final Instructional Decision

Module 6

Now that you have learned about the TBGO+ we will discuss how to get started with TBGO instruction. In this module we will first discuss how to create a long-range plan for implementing WEGO-RIITE instruction with one or more students. We will share some examples of long-range plans and the amount of time you will need to plan for activities as part of this project. Then, we will share resources, including a procedural checklist, that will help you get started. The procedural checklist will tell you everything you need to know for implementing WEGO RIITE instruction. Let’s get started!

In this module you will:

Create a long-range plan for how you will implement WEGO-RIITE Instruction into your classroom
Use the WEGO-RIITE procedural checklist to inform your daily lesson plans.
